Athletic Coaching Training (COSER 509)

CA BOCES operates an NYSED approved in-service program designed to provide the three necessary courses necessary for Certified Teachers and Non-Teachers. CA BOCES is also a NYSED approved provider of these courses in an online format. CA BOCES is also an approved provider of First Aid and CPR/AED training in New York State.

The certification courses required by the State Education Department are: “Principles, Philosophy & Organization of Athletics”, Health Related Aspects of Coaching”, and “Theories & Techniques of Coaching”. The curriculum for these courses consists of the required 120 hours of instructional time. Our courses are offered annually in traditional course and/or online formats. Our schedule of course offerings is listed below.

There are many other requirements for athletic coaching and certification as outlined in the chart below, and depends on the existing qualifications of the individual seeking certification. The CA BOCES Certification Officer (716-376-8374) and your Athletic Director can guide you through the process of meeting New York State’s athletic coaching requirements. Also offered as part of this service are approved First Aid, CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training. Both initial and refresher courses are taught in First Aid and CPR courses according to the new State regulations and on a needed basis. Scheduled courses are listed below.
