Athletic Coaching Training (COSER 509)
CA BOCES operates an NYSED approved in-service program designed to provide the three necessary courses necessary for Certified Teachers and Non-Teachers. CA BOCES is also a NYSED approved provider of these courses in an online format. CA BOCES is also an approved provider of First Aid and CPR/AED training in New York State.
The certification courses required by the State Education Department are: “Principles, Philosophy & Organization of Athletics”, Health Related Aspects of Coaching”, and “Theories & Techniques of Coaching”. The curriculum for these courses consists of the required 120 hours of instructional time. Our courses are offered annually in online formats with outstanding local coach instructors. Courses typically begin in July, November, and March. Our schedule of course offerings is listed below.
The CA BOCES Certification Officer (716-376-8374) and your Athletic Director can guide you through the process of meeting New York State’s athletic coaching requirements. All details and steps related to certification of athletic coaches can can be found on the New York Stated Education Department website.
All participants of courses provided by CA BOCES must be sponsored by a school district that is a member of this service. There is no out-of-pocket cost to the participant to complete these courses.
