This course, taught by ASE certified instructors, will prepare students for careers and further study in the changing field of automotive technology through hands-on project based learning experiences. The program goal is to prepare students for entry level automotive careers and further study in automotive maintenance and light repair. Options for further study include Automotive Technology/Mechanics, Motorsports, Parts and Service Technology, Motorcycle Technology, and ATV and Diesel Mechanics. Students gain experience through a hands-on laboratory work space. Projects include oil changes, tires, brakes, exhaust systems, engine work, electrical repairs, and NYS inspections. Students have the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA competitions as well as other competitions that are sponsored by car dealerships and car manufacturers. Some of these competitions may result in prizes of tools or scholarships.
