Gain Introductory Skills for Industry

CABOCES provides industrial classes designed to provide you with the skills you need to navigate in today and tomorrow’s industry.  You can learn the basics of welding and heavy equipment operation or take the required Pre-Assignment training to be a security guard; the Annual In-Service training for Security Guards is also available.

Heavy Equipment

Learn the safety and operation of skid steer loaders, excavator/mini-excavator, tractor/loader, bulldozer, dump truck, and forklift. Classes are offered at the CTE Center in Ellicottville, which is located at 5550 Route 242E in Ellicottville, NY.

After a successful weeklong, daytime program, we are considering doing it again and will share dates in this space once we decide if we will have the program that way again.

Security Guard 8-hour Pre-Assignment Course and Annual In-Service

Security guards protect property, maintain security, and enforce regulations and standards of conduct. This eight-hour class is required to be eligible to obtain employment as a security guard in New York State (NYS). Classes are held every September at our Olean Center and cost $110 per person.  Classes are typically on a Tuesday and Thursday in September and run from 4 to 8 pm.

Welding

Students will learn appropriate welding techniques in this 50-hour course. This course includes one-on-one training for MIG, TIG, stick, and creative designs, with the purpose of preparing students to pass a basic pre-employment hands-on welding test. Classes are offered at the CTE Center in Olean.

Schedule for Welding Spring 2026opens PDF file : To successfully complete this program, we expect students to attend every class. We understand emergencies happen, so up to two absences are allowed.

Fall 2026 Application Information:
The following is the current information for the application and enrollment process for our Fall 2026 Welding program.

  • The application link will become available by 4 pm on Friday, May 1, 2026 (paper applications will be mailed on Thursday, April 30, 2026).
  • The application will close on Friday, June 12, 2026; paper applications must be postmarked by or dropped off at the Olean Center by this date, or they will not be accepted.
  • non-refundable $100 deposit will be due by 4 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
    OR
    We must receive communication from a funding agency that they are planning to fund you for the Fall 2026 program.
  • We require a minimum of 20% of the total tuition to be paid for before class starts; the remaining payment will be due by Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
  • If the full tuition is not paid before class starts, you will agree to make payments while enrolled, with the total to be paid off with a minimum of 4 weeks remaining in the class.

This information will be updated once the cost and the schedule for the Fall 2026 programs are finalized.
