The Process
The following steps need be completed as part of the application process.
- Apply online at the link below or submit your completed paper application to Adult Education, c/o CABOCES, 1825 Windfall Road, Olean, NY 14760. Contact us at (716) 376-8264 or email us at adulted@caboces.orgcreate new email to provide us with your mailing address and we will mail you a paper application; you may also stop by the Olean Center at 1825 Windfall Road.
Please note: you will need to provide contact information for two references when you apply, and at least one of them has to be a professional reference (Employer, Teacher, Counselor, etc.). - Take and pass the ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) test in March (dates TBD); it will cost you $100 to take the test at our Olean Center. The link to sign up for the TEAS test at our Olean Center will be provided by email to confirmed applicants.
Note: if you are not able to make any of the test dates we list, you can sign up for a remote proctor for the test, but you will pay more than $100 and must take the test at one of our CTE Centers (Olean, Belmont, or Ellicottville). We can ensure you have a quiet space to take the test on a day that works for you, but you have to take the test somewhere we can verify your identity. Please contact us to make these arrangements!
See the FAQ section below for resources for preparing for the TEAS. - On the day you take the TEAS, regardless of the results, you will have a meet-and-greet with a member of the Adult Ed Staff. At this meet-and-greet, students who pass will be given instructions on filling out the FAFSA and will be given the instructions to complete and submit a Program Success Plan; we reserve the right to ask questions about any information provided to us by your references.
Students who do not pass the TEAS will discuss options moving forward. Please do not give up! We have had many students succeed in the program who had to take the test twice! - Complete and submit a Program Success Plan electronically (printed submissions will not be accepted).
Next Steps
Once accepted into the program, students must complete the following steps to secure their spot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to take the TEAS exam?
Yes, all applicants must take a pre-entrance exam to be considered for acceptance (New York State requirement). If you have already taken the TEAS exam within the past 12 months, we require an official transcript of the results sent directly from ATI. Request transcripts from ATI by calling 1-800-667-7531opens phone dialer. Please note that we may not take the results of any TEAS exam taken after 3/28/25 if the TEAS was not taken at our facility.
What is on the TEAS exam?
The TEAS exam consists of four sections:
-
- Reading: paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.
- Math: whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.
- Science: science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, basic physical principles, and general science.
- English and Language Usage: punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.
How can I best prepare for taking the TEAS?
Visit www.atitesting.com. ATI offers review products: a study manual and an online assessment. The following are also helpful links:
Can I use a calculator on the TEAS?
Since the TEAS is online, the website provides a calculator to use.
How long will it take for me to get my TEAS scores?
Your results will be available online immediately after finishing the exam; whoever proctors your test will review these with you at the end of your test. A formal report will need to be sent to us afterwards.
What is considered a passing score on the TEAS?
We look for a combined overall score of 55 on the TEAS exam to be considered for the program, or both a 50+ on the Math and a 60+ on the Reading.
Do I have to take the TEAS test at your facility?
Yes. There has been a high level of fraud committed nationally with nursing entrance exams, and this is the best way to ensure that our applicants are the ones taking the test. NOTE: If you took the TEAS test at another facility within the past 12 months, please share with us your score report, and we will contact the institution to verify; if you took it at home with an online proctor, we will not accept that test.
When can I take the TEAS test at your facility?
We offer the test at both our Olean Center (dates listed above). Students should arrive no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled start and should plan for 4 hours for the test.
STUDENTS MUST PRE-REGISTER MORE THAN 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE! NO WALK-INS WILL BE ACCEPTED. “NO CALL, NO SHOWS” WILL NOT BE REFUNDED BY ATI.
How do I register for the TEAS exam?
We will send each applicant the link to register once we have reviewed your application. Students will use the ATI website to schedule and pay for the exam ($100); you may choose any date to test, but space is limited in each administration.
