Students with Disabilities – Social Studies Teacher

Start Date:  January 11, 2020

Qualifications Required:  Valid NYS teaching certification in Students with Disabilities and Social Studied certification area/Special Education

Qualifications Desired:

  1. Secondary Special Education Teaching Experience
  2. Experience with students with Autism
  3. Experience, knowledge and background related to NYS learning standards and multiple assessments including formative and benchmark assessments in unit design
  4. Desire and knowledge to balance students’ social/emotional and academic/intellectual needs
  5. Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills with parents, staff and students
  6. Desire and ability to work collaboratively with an academic team including an interdisciplinary approach to lesson design
  7. Knowledge of strategies in the areas of literacy and writing
  8. Knowledge and evidence of unit planning and lesson design using Understanding by Design, differentiated instruction, curriculum mapping and multiple assessment using various forms of technology, with remote learning classroom platforms
  9. Uses varied instruction methods and assessments to support:
    1. Engaged learning
    2. Higher-order thinking skills
    3. Meaningful, authentic use of knowledge
    4. Integration of 21st century skills
    5. Multiple intelligences
  10. Evidence of strong classroom management with an emphasis on student engagement and student success in the classroom
  11. Commitment to curriculum development, professional development, flexible teamwork and instructional technology
  12. Willingness to be a coach or activity advisor

Long Term Substitute School Psychologist (Secondary)

Start Date:  Immediate (through June 30, 2021)

Qualifications Required:  

  1. Valid NYS School Psychology certification
  2. Experience working as a psychologist with regular and special education students

Qualifications Desired:

  1. Clinical counseling experience with children and families

DUTIES:

The primary goal of this position is to enable students to fulfill their potential. This may include academic, emotional and social success. The training and tools  unique to the school psychologist will be used to supplement interventions by instructional and administrative staff.

  • Participate in necessary CSE and Section 504 meetings
  • Assess difficulties of referred students through appropriate diagnostic and testing practices, including classroom observation
  • Facilitate collaborative team discussions at student concerns arise
  • Staff awareness and implementation of Section 504 plans
  • Maintain case records on all referred students
  • Provide school counseling according to IEPs and as needed
