Deputy Steven M. Dombek

Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office

Currently I work for the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff, and I am assigned to the Salamanca City School District as a School Resource Officer for Prospect Elementary.  I have been in Law Enforcement for around 16 years, and worked for various Police agencies within Cattaraugus County.  Within my agency I was able to be certified a Field Training Officer to train new recruits, and I also over see our Car Seat Division as a Car Seat Technician Proxy level.  I was also a Substitute Teacher for BOCES Vo-Tech for about 9 years, mainly covering the Olean campus.  I had to resign from my position due to getting my new assignment to the school back in 2018.  I am still on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board for BOCES Vo-Tech, and I have been apart of that for many years as well.

My BOCES education helped me out immensely, because I was already ahead of the game when I got to college.  My college professor’s were talking about things that I learned in my 2 years of attending BOCES in Olean.  Getting the extra college credits and not paying for them was a great incentive, and saved me some money in the long run.  By going to BOCES I got the hands on education that I wanted into a field I dreamed of getting into.  They prepared me with oral board interviews, portfolio and resume creation and getting to meet people within Criminal Justice.  I enjoyed BOCES so much that I wanted to give back when I became a Police Officer.  When I finally achieved my certification I reached back out to my old teacher, and advised him I would like to help out when I can.  Mr. McLaughlin had me come in to do some speaking engagements, but then it evolved into coming in for Future Focuses, Hands on training for the students, Criminal Justice Advisory Board and then BOCES asked me to become a substitute for them. I am a huge advocate of BOCES, and what they can provide to students and the community.
