CABOCES Holds All Staff Day

The annual Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES All Staff Day was once again held at Holiday Valley Resort on Monday, August 27, 2018.  CABOCES Board of Education President Candace Clemens introduced her fellow board members in attendance and welcomed all of the CABOCES employees.  Mrs. Clemons then touched on the organization’s three core values –- to have highly satisfied customers, to treat all individuals with respect, and to provide an environment of innovation and risk.  She also challenged the staff to continue to strive to do their best every day to satisfy their customers, who are primarily students.

Nearly 600 full-time staff and a few hundred part-time employees gathered in the Yodeler Lodge for the Opening Session in the morning, followed by breakout workshops and other activities.  More than 75 new employees -- hired over the summer -- were also among the attendees.

District Superintendent and BOCES Chief Executive Officer Lynda Quick followed Mrs. Clemens; laying out the size and scope of our organization and the numerous services we provide for our 22 component schools and the residents of those districts.  Ms. Quick also spoke about her upcoming departure from our BOCES to start a new chapter in her life as a school superintendent at Skaneateles Central School.  She said she will miss the support she received throughout her 25 years with CABOCES, but she will miss the people she’s been able to work with the most.

Following the Opening Session, employees from each division or department broke out to activities specifically tailored for their group in either Yodeler Lodge, Tannenbaum Lodge, or the HV Training Center.

One of the presenters was Dr. Jim Van Allen of Van Allen Communications who spoke on the importance of maintaining positive energy on the job and in life, in general.  He stressed that it’s our choice whether to be positive or not.  Several BOCES employees also volunteered to become part of his hands-on presentation.

CABOCES employees then enjoyed lunch and they had their choice of several activities including: chair lift rides, the Sky High Aerial Adventure Park, Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster, golf driving range/putting green, walk, meditation, yoga, escape room, self-defense, flu shots, and wellness stations.
