Location: Classroom Time: One Hour Standards: MS T: 1,4,7 ELA 1,4Description: Learn about survival in space and on Mars by participating in Tomatosphere. A scripted scenario will challenge students to develop an understanding of germination and the living environment on Mars. If colonization is probable, we need to be prepared! Registered classrooms will receive three groups of tomato seeds that they will grow and observe. The seeds are part of a research project to find out how the Martian environment affects tomato seeds. One group of seeds will have been exposed to a simulated Martian environment on Mars. The second group will have been exposed to a simulated greenhouse environment and the last group will be a control. This will be a blind study, therefore your students will not know which group is which until after your results have been turned in. Please register with Barbara Busack and online at http://www.tomatosphere.org to receive your seeds and lesson activities. This is also the site that your students will go to to submit their results. Registration Form and Directions For Registering: When registering please include your name, name of your school, name of the program you wish services, your grade level, class size, and suggested date and time.
